Four people, including the manager of a dog breeder and an 18-year-old trainee, were indicted after the opening of an investigation by the Alès public prosecutor’s office for “involuntary manslaughter”.
An erroneous first version of the facts
The tragedy occurred late Tuesday afternoon when Annette Guibal, former mayor of Canaules-et-Argentières from 2001 to 2014, came to pay her respects at the grave of a loved one in the cemetery located at the exit of the village . “She goes inside and gets her throat jumped by a dog, an Argentinian mastiff, which almost cuts her carotid artery,” relates the prosecutor of Alès, Abdelkrim Grin, to the Parisian. The victim’s vehicle was found in front of the cemetery and two flower pots were discovered near his body, he said.

It finally appears that one of the dogs the apprentice was walking escaped her when Annette Guibal was present.
Suspicion of tampering with a crime scene
During her hearings, the apprentice admitted to having lied and to having been put “under pressure”, specified the magistrate. According to the AFP, she “confessed that it was a stratagem put in place by the manager to avoid her possible responsibility in these facts”. Because, in addition to the help, the young woman also warned the manager of the breeding, a 42-year-old mother.
According to BFMTV, the manager told her intern to tell the police that Annette Guibal had been attacked by a stray dog. She then asked her two sons, aged 19, to go there to make the Argentinian mastiff disappear. The two young men were also taken into police custody. They are accused of “altering a crime or misdemeanor scene”.
The four people were indicted and the manager of the dog breeding facility was placed in pre-trial detention. “Unfavorably known to the justice system”, she must also be tried in September by the Alès criminal court in a case of violence, the prosecutor also indicated.
