Fire on St-Vallier Street West in Quebec

Firefighters responded to 334 rue Saint-Vallier Ouest for a fire in a 3-story building, attached on both sides. Shops are located at 1er floor and a rooming house of eight units is located on 2e and 3e floor.

Two alarms were sounded, nearly thirty firefighters intervened. The blaze was located in a bedroom on 3e floor. The firefighters ensured that all the tenants had evacuated the premises. The SPCIQ confirms that the building’s alarm was functional but that several rooms in the rooming house did not have functional smoke alarms.

The fire was declared under control around 7:09 p.m.

No people were injured during the intervention. Due to fire and water damage, the building cannot be reinstated. Representatives of the Red Cross and the CIUSSS ensured that the occupants were taken care of. The fire station was on site to determine the origin and cause of the fire, indicated the SPCIQ.
