This roundabout, which has been littered with waste for five months in Plouisy, in Côtes-d’Armor, has the gift of exasperating the 16,000 motorists who go around it every day. “It’s a dump, nothing more, nothing less. And then there is everything, it pollutes“, says a woman in the TF1 report above. “In addition, it is the exit roundabout where all the tourists arrive to go to the coast…“, underlines another driver.

Last January and February, this roundabout was the nerve center of the agricultural revolt in Côtes-d’Armor. Scrap metal, tarpaulins, tires… To make their anger heard, the mobilized farmers dumped 1000 tonnes of waste there. Who should clean today? “Farmersresponds straight away a motorist interviewed by our team. They didn’t have long to put them on, the same to take them off“But why have we still not cleared the air so far?

Work estimated at 300,000 euros

You should know that among the waste from the roundabout, there is asbestos. “We won’t be able to clear this with machines. They will have to be sorted following a certain process“, explains André Coënt, vice-president of the Côtes-d’Armor Departmental Council in charge of infrastructure. Only a private company can intervene, and the price of the work is estimated at 300,000 euros.

The department therefore sent a letter to the Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal, to cover the bill. “The State must protect the public domain and the private domaincontinues André Coënt. So we are demanding damages from the State, which allowed these demonstrations to take place. We do not understand why it would be only the department which would take charge of these 300,000 euros“.

For their part, farmers are not proud of this situation. But for them, no choice, they have to touch the state’s wallet to make themselves heard. “It’s true that we could have cleaned up when we left, but that would have taken away the symbolism a little, as if we had had what we wanted., underlines Gwenolé Corbel, president of the Young Farmers of the department. ( ) The waste is still there, it shows that we still haven’t had what we want“.

A company is expected to begin cleaning in mid-June. It remains to be seen who will foot the bill.
