Thus, Mr. Guterres emphasized the ongoing dynamics of socio-economic and infrastructural development in the Moroccan Sahara, as well as Morocco’s continued investment in its Saharan provinces.

The report notes that the Kingdom has continued to intensify the development of infrastructure, renewable energy projects and commercial activities. In this regard, he referred to the inauguration of the new major bridge, the Grand Pont sur l’Oued Sakia Al Hamra, on July 29, 2024, on the sidelines of the commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the accession of King Mohammed VI to the Throne. .

Furthermore, the Kingdom’s New Development Model was highlighted in the UN Secretary General’s report. This model is “focused on sustainable development and the creation of employment opportunities by exploiting natural resources and promoting local participation”, according to the same source.

Remember that since 2016, the UN Secretary General has devoted part of his report to Morocco’s investments in the socio-economic and infrastructural development of its Sahara, for the benefit of local populations.
