The National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM), headed by Amina Benkhadra, took part in the Franco-German Mediterranean Forum in Berlin, on October 17 and 18. This forum highlighted the energy perspectives of the Mediterranean area, with a particular focus on energy security and renewable energies.

The Director General of ONHYM underlined the importance of natural gas in the energy transition, in parallel with the development of clean energies, while emphasizing the central role of Morocco and Africa in this global transition.

Morocco has been engaged in an ambitious energy strategy since 2009, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI. The country is today positioned as a leader in regional cooperation with large-scale projects, such as the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline. This project, which will cross 16 countries, aims to strengthen energy security and stimulate economic and industrial development in West Africa.

The Forum also brought together senior European and Mediterranean officials, highlighting the opportunities offered by Euro-African cooperation in achieving the objectives of the European Green Deal and the REPowerEU plan, focused on the transition to a decarbonized economy.
