the essential
Bedside tables, coffee tables, desks, poufs… some of the furniture from the Olympics was on sale this Saturday in Lachapelle-Auzac, in the Emmaüs premises. Souvenirs for those who dreamed of owning a bit of the capital and a lot of memories at home.

Sir, you may be sitting on the beanbag where Teddy Riner rested and enjoyed his two Olympic medals! And this lady who contemplates a series of bedside tables, all the same, imagines that she is perhaps in the presence of one of those who accompanied the Lebrun brothers’ medal dreams in table tennis.

The OJ effect again and again

We said “table.” » So, now here is a series of coffee tables. All of them, this is the only certainty, equipped the Olympic village in Paris where the Olympic and Paralympic athletes converged daily. This Saturday, these collector’s treasures were the subject of an exceptional sale at the premises of the Emmaüs Lot Committee in Lachapelle-Auzac. The place to be if you wanted to have one more encounter with Olympic history, one last time. That of our country.

These are not mailboxes, but bedside tables.

It was the will and desire of Bastien and Geneviève Antonin who found everything, but really everything “very ugly” they giggled in front of a pink pouf like they would never have wanted if the JO effect had not charmed them.

“This pink ottoman will fit perfectly in our garage. No one will see it”

“That’s the secret. We don’t like anything we see here, but we want Olympic souvenirs. These are rare items. By taking them home, we have the impression of taking a part of the sporting history of our dear . This pink ottoman will fit perfectly in our garage. Nobody will see it. As for the bedside table, much too small for it to fulfill its real mission in a bedroom, it will serve perfectly as a safe, because it has a key. It’s very practical” agrees the couple, with an ironic touch but passionate about the Olympics. At the Emmaüs checkout, a saleswoman considers this sale to be “a flop!” We hoped for better. »

Arms full of emotion

Édouard Giner and his daughter Mélissa are not disappointed. “We left with what we wanted: a bathroom chair that was used by Paralympic athletes. It’s not important to us who sat on it. What matters to us is to be certain that this chair has ensured the comfort of an athlete to then allow him to feel better in his body, well in his sport” declares Edouard.

“The sale made people happy, that’s the main thing”

Sports instructor, Edouard knows what he is talking about. His purchase is imbued with emotion and common sense. He leaves with a wonderful souvenir and not just a chair. “It was the poufs and bedside tables that sold the best,” assures Pyra, responsible for the sales of these objects, which are located in a room dedicated to the Olympics. On the ceiling, Olympic rings rotated according to the passage of visitors and the movement of air.

Let’s not get us wrong though! This sale was not a breeze! But a real boost given by the Olympic Games to all the Emmaûs Committees in France. “We all received a few items from the Olympic Village. Here, in Lachapelle-Auzac, we were the recipients of only part of the furniture. The sale made people happy, that’s the main thing,” rejoices Antoine Champagne, the head of the Lotois Committee, Olympic champion of originality… and of the pink pouf.
