Doo-Wop, To Zion, Ex-Factor, Everything is Everything, Superstar… So many cult titles that made the music scene shine at the end of the 90’s. In 1998, Lauryn Hillaged 22, is going solo. She then writes The Miseducation of Lauryn Hillan eclectic album with titles flirting between hip-hop and soul. Released on August 25, 1998, this album is a true musical gem which quickly reached more than 19 million worldwide sales and which remained, at the time, for four weeks on the Billboard 200. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hillthe soul icon made his comeback this year at the Accor Arena in Paris with a concert this October 18, 2024 alongside the Fugees. The second takes place this evening, at 9 p.m.
Amazing Lauryn Hill
We know Lauryn Hill. Renowned for her late arrivals, she was no exception to the rule for her first Parisian date. She was supposed to start her concert at 9 p.m. As she confided in 2020 on her Facebook page: “I don’t arrive late for my concerts because I don’t care. I have nothing but love and respect for my fans. The challenge is to align my energy before going on stage.” Still, the Djette DJ Rebornwho is performing his first part, is still on stage at 9:40 p.m. The public whistles… Fortunately, five minutes later, the members of the Fugees finally arrive. On the screen behind the stage are projected archive images of Lauryn Hill and her group, videos of music icons that the singer used to listen to growing up, but also important messages against discrimination to convey. A few seconds later, the main interested party comes forward, like a diva under a parasol with vintage accents carried by an assistant. In perfect French, she asks “How are you this evening?” She is dressed in a colorful faux fur coat, a shirt and a tie to the glory of Paris (she did not hesitate to give pride of place to it throughout the concert, chanting the name of the capital in several of her hits), and wearing dreadlocks.
