MONEY THROUGH THE WINDOWS – In a small town in the north-east of , a totally unnecessary construction arouses mockery and anger from the residents. Because it also cost the community dearly.


In this new series of articles, Le Figaro sets out in search of lost millions, wasted on useless or poorly sized projects, even though public finances are drained.


A curious vestige, which has become locally a symbol of waste of public money. Who knows, in a few decades, this “monument» will perhaps have the honors of a broadcast by the next Stéphane Bern. In the meantime, in Warcq, the “bridge that leads nowhere”as it is called in this small town in the Ardennes, provokes ironic comments. “It’s always better to be known for that than for Michel Fourniret, but hey…”says Émelyne, who lives in the area. Because this “joke» was expensive: nearly 3 million euros of public money were invested in this bridge “which is of no use”. “It’s a financial disaster, a terrible waste”thunders Frank, who has come to buy his bread in the only bakery in the tiny center of Warcq.
