Quebecers are the least likely to think that Canada “welcomes too many immigrants”, although this feeling is increasing across the country, according to a large survey by the firm Environics.

Even after an increase of 9 points in one year, less than half (47%) of Quebecers agree or strongly agree that there is too much immigration in Canada.

This is significantly less than Ontarians (63%), Albertans (64%), British Columbians (57%) or Canadians in the Atlantic provinces (56%).

This is possibly attributable to the generally gloomy atmosphere that reigns in the rest of Canada: it is in Quebec (48%) that people are the most optimistic about the general direction of the country.

Still according to Environics, Quebecers are, along with British Columbians, those who worry the least about the skin color of immigrants.

The figures show that 39% of Canadians agree with the statement that “Canada welcomes too many immigrants from racial minorities”, up 15 points from 2022.

This average is pushed up in particular because of Alberta (51%), young people aged 18 to 29 (40%), first generation immigrants (46%) and even “racialized” people (45% ).

Those who least agree with this statement are university graduates (30%), British Columbians (33%) and Quebecers (34%).
