A 44-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries after being hit by a van Friday afternoon, while crossing Crémazie Boulevard, in the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough.

The police were called around 1:55 p.m. in connection with a collision between a van and a pedestrian at the corner of Crémazie Boulevard and Papineau Avenue.

According to the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM), the van was leaving the parking lot of a shopping center when it entered Crémazie Boulevard by making a right turn. The vehicle collided with a 44-year-old woman who was crossing Crémazie Boulevard south.

The pedestrian was transported to hospital, where she died of her injuries.

The driver of the van, aged 46, was not injured. He remained at the scene, where police met him.

Police are asking the public to avoid the area. A perimeter has been erected, and Crémazie Boulevard is closed westbound from Iberville Street.

Specialist collision investigators were dispatched to the scene to shed light on the exact circumstances of the incident.
