The absenteeism rate of public sector agents was at the heart of the debates during the last Council, Friday October 11, 2024. The single social report establishes that City agents have an average of 39.6 days of absence per year. However, at the national level, absenteeism “is 9.7 days in the public service, 6.7 in the private sector”, regretted Grégory Canal, opposition advisor of the Changer Paris group, according to comments reported by News Paris in an article published this Thursday.

“Lack of recognition” or “sign of vitality”?

Samia Badat-Karam, advisor to the same group, denounced “lack of recognition and valuation” to explain this phenomenon. Olivia Polski, assistant in charge of human resources, therefore defended herself by giving more details on what actually makes up these days of absence, which she perceives as “a sign of vitality and solidarity”.

Paternity leave has thus increased to 100% use, while adoption leave has doubled in four years and solidarity leave has increased tenfold between 2022 and 2023.

Reduction in absences for health reasons

Beyond that, leave intended for caregivers has also been widely developed. At the same time, absences for health reasons fell between 2022 and 2023 according to the report, from 9.68% to 9.14%.

The opposition also highlighted the number of strike days. In connection with the pension reform, it increased from 45,855 days in 2022 to 80,797 days in 2023.
