SENEGAL-COLLECTIVITES-INFRASTRUCTURES / An elected official is alarmed by the poor state of the roads in Thiès – Senegalese press agency

Thiès, Oct 17 (APS) – Ousmane Diagne, the mayor of the district commune of Thiès-Est, was alarmed, Wednesday, by the deterioration of roads in the town of Thiès (west), a situation which requires, according to him, the intervention of the state services responsible for road maintenance.

”All the roads in the commune of Thiès-Est and the town of Thiès are in an advanced state of disrepair,” declared Mr. Diagne on the sidelines of the launch of the repair work on Avenue Aynina-Fall.

”We cannot, as elected officials, as mayor, sit idly by leaving motorists in this situation. We will try to relieve them with the means at our disposal,” he said.

Ousmane Diagne recalls that road maintenance is not part of the skills transferred by the State to the municipalities.

He wants the services concerned to intervene in the city of Thiès to repair its roads.

Local authorities ”have neither the technical skills nor the financial possibilities to build roads,” argued Ousmane Diagne.
