The current Cévennes episode in the department has led to the interruption of the train line linking Alès and Langogne. The decision was taken by the SNCF in order to anticipate the heavy rains forecast until Thursday in the north of the department. “Violent winds, rain and storms could disrupt train and bus traffic in the region between 4 a.m. and 3 p.m.,” estimated the transport company to justify its decision.

“We generally added between 30 and 70 mm on the relief, and up to 100-120 mm in the Lozère part”, underlines Météo- which placed five departments on orange vigilance until midnight this Wednesday: the Gard, but also Lozère, Ardèche, until Thursday evening (9 p.m.). The and the Alpes-Maritimes are also on orange alert, but (for the moment) until 4 p.m. this Wednesday.

The highest accumulations took place between Saint-Jean-du-Gard and Langogne. Accumulations in the Cévennes sector often reach 100 to 150 mm, and nearly 200 mm have been recorded south of Mont Lozère. In the plains, the accumulations are much less significant. Thursday, in the second part of the day and evening, “significant accumulations of rain are likely in areas of the Gard plain, it is important to monitor the evolution of the situation,” warns Météo-France.

In Montpellier, 2,900 Enedis customers were deprived following the storms. Hérault is classified under yellow vigilance.
