In the heart of the Sarments district, Place du Pressoir in (Val-d’Oise), the Smart University was inaugurated on October 19, 2021.

A project launched by the City of Taverny, the Success Hub and CY University. From 2021 to 2023, two sessions of 25 students, failed in Parcours Sup or elsewhere, were able to resume their studies or initiate a professional reconversion.

But in September 2023, the Success Hub went into liquidation, which led to the closure of three Smart universities in Île-de-, including Taverny. The 2023 back-to-school session could therefore not be hosted.

For the City of Taverny, municipalizing the structure was “the one and only viable solution”

Not wishing to see this establishment disappear, the City moved towards the choice of municipalization, “the one and only viable solution”.

To share the news Connected University of Taverny, the City was supported by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, the Caisse des Dépôts and always CY Cergy Paris University.

Installed in 130 m2 of premises belonging to the lessor Cdc habitat, it accommodates 24 students (the structure is complete) of various ages and with different backgrounds. The “third place” of higher education is aimed at those over 18 years old, with no age limit, holders of the Bac or Daeu (diploma providing access to university studies) or higher education training (Bts, license, master, etc.)

1 000 formations

1,000 training courses are offered and certified thanks to partnerships with Cned and more than 30 universities. The connected university allows you to follow studies remotely with the support of a coach-tutor.

The mayor (Lr) of Taverny, Florence Portelli, welcomed this reopening.

“It was not tolerable that this campus, extremely useful for young dropouts, those who have experienced difficulties with Parcours Sup or who have had other life paths and want to resume their studies, closed its doors,” insisted the ‘edile.

“Bravo, it was bold to municipalize this campus, not everyone would have done it,” greeted the president of CY Cergy Paris Université, Laurent Gatineau.

“The number of people who have re-registered is very encouraging,” noted the representative of the Ministry of Higher Education, who praised the work of the tutors “who are there to coach the students and without whom success with studies at distance would be much more difficult.

The prefect, Philippe Court, estimated that the connected campuses, launched in 2018, correspond to an aspiration, allowing “diverse audiences” to meet and offering a place “physically accessible. The idea is not to make a by-product.”

“A lifeline”

Several students from the new session or former students, now graduated, were then invited to give their testimonies, often moving, like Olivia, from Rwanda, who was able to successfully resume medical studies or Ouardia, who arrived from Algeria in France in 2010, who became a medical biology technician, for whom this university was a “lifeline” which allowed her “after a long break” to “overcome [ses] doubts” by returning to studies, which was “not easy”.

Another young woman praised the atmosphere that reigns in this place, “a real campus where there are many moments of conviviality”. The presentation of CY Cergy Paris University student cards and honorary diplomas concluded the ceremony.
