The MP, Guy Marius Sagna returned to the debate concerning the FCFA. According to him, the FCFA is ”an instrument of domination and oppression of all countries, of all peoples who share it”. He was the guest of the Sunday Jury on the airwaves.

“In the weeks and months to come, certainly, the President of the Republic and the government of Senegal will tell the Senegalese what they intend to do in a concrete manner on the question of the CFA franc. But what is important and constant, whether before March 24, whether after March 24, 2024, today, is that this FCFA is an instrument of domination and oppression of all the countries, of all the peoples who share it, whether the eight countries of West Africa, the six of Central Africa, as well as the Comoros. It’s as simple as that,” said Guy Marius Sagna.

According to the activist, “as long as we are in the bonds of suggestion, in the bonds of oppression of the FCFA, in particular, we will not be able to develop.” Because for him, “if having your currency is not a sufficient condition for development, it is a necessary condition… Because quite simply, we have maintained neocolonial relations which mean that it is the interests of other powers, the interests of multinationals, the interests of capitalists at the international level which are put forward, and not the interests of us Africans, not the interests of us Senegalese, to speak and return to our country.

Continuing his remarks, he questions why, today, in our countries, there are so many young people who seek to take the road to the Sahara Desert, that of Nicaragua, or quite simply that of the Atlantic Ocean. ?

“Because, yes, we have a currency that facilitates imports, and that facilitates imports simply means great competition for our small and medium-sized businesses. There are 64% of small and medium-sized businesses that die before 3 years. For what ? One of the reasons is because of the FCFA. Our economic actors, whether farmers, breeders, our business leaders, do not have enough credit. For what ? Because this FCFA is doing what we call monetary repression. It’s not emotion, it’s reality,” replies Guy Marius Sagna.
