The State of Qatar reiterated, Monday in New York, its support for the Moroccan autonomy plan, qualifying it as a “constructive” initiative and an “objective” basis for any realistic and lasting solution to the regional dispute around the Moroccan Sahara.
Speaking before members of the 4th Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, the representative of Qatar, Jassim Al-Thani, expressed his country’s support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General aimed at facilitating the achievement of a lasting political solution and compromise within the framework of the process carried out under the auspices of the United Nations, in accordance with Security Council resolutions, including 2703, and in respect of the sovereignty of Morocco and its territorial integrity.
The diplomat also welcomed the efforts made by the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General for the Moroccan Sahara, expressing the hope of seeing a definitive and lasting solution to this dispute materialize, in favor of strengthening stability and cooperation in the region, as well as international peace and security.
