This is the story of a Gruyère “émigré” in Geneva. Jérôme Pugin may well have been born in the City of Calvin, but his heart remains Friborg: “My parents emigrated to Geneva in 1957 because of the shortage of work in their region of origin.” From Neirivue (now the commune of Haut-Intyamon), he retains joyful childhood memories and the flavor of large family reunions: “My father had 11 brothers and sisters and my mother four. I have around fifty first cousins. A big family that meets every two years in Gruyère.” He takes his three adult children and his four grandchildren there, to whom he passes on this attachment to the region.

Although the doctor remains very attached to his canton of origin, it is in Geneva that he built his network, his friendships – “many were born on the benches of Claparède College” – and his passion: medicine. “A childhood dream that I was lucky enough to be able to realize even if I hesitated when it came time to enroll in the Faculty of Medicine. At the gym, I had a biology teacher who made me doubt. I love this subject, but the call of medicine was stronger.”
