As part of the TAF show today in Figeac, the pitch space is an opportunity for the “Les Entreprises s’engage du Lot” network to question the place of seniors. While in France, the employment rate of seniors is one of the lowest in Europe, companies established in Grand Figeac are betting on recruiting them.

In Occitanie, 154,400 people over 50, without any activity, are registered with France Work. In March 2024, they represented almost a third of job seekers in the Region. In France, only 57% of 55-64 year olds have a job today. “The objective of France Travail is to offer each job seeker over the age of 50 a path adapted to their situation. » explains Laurence Ingargiola of France Travail Occitanie. “Behind the word senior, there are very different, individual realities. We have job seekers who are forced to retrain because their sector of activity is in decline. We have others who want to retrain and use their skills in other professions. Seniors have a lot of skills to develop and we can help them develop their skills with training.”

“We must value everything that seniors have acquired in terms of skills. Their professional skills are highly sought after by companies today,” explains Nathalie. Durand-Graves of the “Les Entreprises s’engage du Lot” network. “Seniors have experience, life experience, but they also have fewer constraints and are more settled in life.” For this consultant who supports companies in the Lot, “Seniors are a cog in the transmission of essential know-how to companies, in particular with the role of tutors. Within the mixed youth and senior teams, they bring temperance to the impatience of young people and contribute to a peaceful social climate.”

Stéphanie Roquette, the Human Resources Manager of Fermes de Figeac, has just led a workshop at the Agence de France Travail in Figeac. “We prepare senior job seekers to meet employers present at the TAF Show to showcase their skills and know-how. I advise them to show their ability to adapt and their motivation. Les Fermes de Figeac is recruiting positions for its stores but also for its photovoltaic center which now employs 32 people. We have professions in tension where we do not necessarily find suitable profiles. We have just recruited a 58-year-old butcher. It is not easy to find candidates for these positions among the youngest.”

At the TAF show in Figeac, the “Les Entreprises s’engage du Lot” network is organizing a meeting at 10:30 a.m. in the Pitch space entitled “Seniors, what added value for the company?” » With the testimony of two companies, Figeac Aero and La Quercynoise, who will discuss this occasion with senior job seekers. “The TAF show facilitates exchanges” insists Laurence Ingargiola from France Travail, “It allows job seekers to present themselves to recruiters without the filters that usually exist by sending their application by email or by telephone.” Companies await you from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Espace François Mitterrand. And for many of them, the age of the candidate is no longer a barrier but a real asset in passing on their know-how and expertise to younger people.
