Senegal enters a new era: the Citizen Movement calls for a “moral rearmament” of youth

With the alternation that occurred in Senegal on March 24, a change of mentality for the youth, today disoriented, is possible. The Citizen Movement is convinced of this and expressed it, during the relaunch of the Citizen Movement, through the voice of its president, Professor Penda Mbow. However, “we need a rearmament of this youth” she declared to the press yesterday Wednesday.

Launched in 2002, the Citizen Movement, whose objective was to contribute to the strengthening of the political and intellectual leadership of young people, has now come out of its long hibernation. Led by Professor Penda Mbow, the movement was relaunched yesterday, Wednesday May 15, 2024. The movement, through its action, wants to contribute to leading to change, to the positive transformation of our societies.

According to the president of the Citizen Movement, “we have experienced an alternation which is not like other alternations; it’s more than an alternation. I have said it several times, this country is truly in a phase of revolution. Our society can no longer continue to function as it has always functioned.

For her, today, “There are new players. There are young people who are completely disoriented. We experienced repression with many deaths of young people, both here and in the sea, and this had a major impact on consciences”underlines Professor Mbow.

And, with this in mind, declares the president of the Citizen Movement, “We need moral rearmament for these young people. That is to say, she must believe in herself, she must believe in Africa. The solution is not to leave. The solution is not precisely to go to violence because we have experienced violence in recent years which has never existed.

Elements brought together, she says, which make “we must review our way of doing things, our relationship, but while not limiting ourselves only to a Citizen Movement, as we had to do. But we must try to create a whole dynamic and bring together all the initiatives so that there is a real revolution in the right direction.recommends Professor Penda Mbow.

Thus, in order to contribute to this quest for a new citizenship, the movement intends to mobilize young people around studies, for example to produce summaries of intellectual contributions published between 2021 and 2024, to discover resistance fighters and resistance movements, etc.
