Ivorian Showbiz has just been hit by the loss of one of its most talented artists. Théa Dogbo Valery, known as Valérie Espoir 2000, died in France yesterday at the age of 49 from blood cancer.
Valery was one of the emblematic figures of the group Espoir 2000. After a long absence, the group planned its return to the stage with the album “Table blanc” in three weeks.
Founded in 1997, the Espoir 2000 group was made up of Pat Sacko (student), Shura (hairdresser) and Valery (hairdresser assistant).
The group stands out for its satirical treatment of social issues. Particularly the attitudes of young women.
At the beginning of the 2000s, Shura decided to stop his career and moved to France.
The trio becomes a duo, Pat Sacko and Valery. Valery fell ill in 2017 with blood cancer and was treated in Paris. This illness delays the preparation of their album.
Tributes
Upon the announcement of his death, several artists paid tribute to him, Asalfo from the group Magic System wrote: “It is with deep sadness that I learned of the disappearance of Valéry from Espoir 2000, who formed, alongside Pat Sacko, the essential Zouglou duo. This evening, I am not just mourning a colleague, but a brother with whom we shared our first moments of Wôyô, with whom we took the same path, and a friend with whom we together marked the history of our generation in the Zouglou, by inscribing some of its most beautiful pages. May the land of our ancestors be light to him for eternity. Rest in peace, my brother.”
“We were at our hairdresser in Rennes in Brittany three days ago, you told me Aerobase I must recover before going to Abidjan to join Pat Sacko for the release of the album eeh lord my God! rest in peace! » , testified the artist Aerobase in turn.
