From the street to your smartphone, urban art spans the ages. Here is the 3.0 era
And Fresh Painting echoes this. The 2024 edition strikes a balance between wall graffiti and digital art. A credo: innovate, make the spectator an actor and present the talents of digital graffiti. The festival has moved to a brand new, more intimate location, the former Serin college in the 4th arrondissement of Lyon, which will soon be converted into housing.
Moving letters and paintings too. The smartphone becomes a tool for discovering or even creating the work. “You have 1 QR code to scan and then the letters come to life“experiments Damien, a visitor. The aim, to create his own digital blazelfie with the style of Pandor Oner.
We talk about the future, about innovation. The augmented reality presented here is not contemplative, it is participatory. We are no longer simply spectators, we are actors.

On another wall, Magic of Algorithms, a fresco representing the Red Cross suddenly comes to life on the phone screen. “We are somewhat following the same logic as the Advent calendar. There are some small hidden places that you have to find like painted walls or slightly atypical scenes“.
Further on, the screens replace the wall as support. Born 20 years ago, urban digital creations are among the most innovative and abundant artistic approaches.

“Often, I am told that I am moving away from the spirit of graffiti with digital. I think we are really in the right line since I remind you that spray paint is a technology because it is manufactured. Now there are new technologies. Artists are seizing it and we wanted to show it. It is an evolution which will not kill the oldest, which will make a life for itself and develop” argues Cart1, artistic director of the festival.

The ephemeral side of the works is no longer. They will survive the 6th edition. Previously, they were covered or destroyed, surviving through a photo or a video. There, they persist, evolve, are archived and trace their path.
