Doha – The speech addressed to Parliament by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, on the occasion of the opening of the 1st session of the 4th legislative year of the 11th Legislature, highlights “a historic step in the Moroccan Sahara issue , marked in particular by the unprecedented international support for the sovereignty of the Kingdom over its Southern Provinces,” said Abdelkarim Amengay, professor of political science at the Doha Institute for Higher Studies.

“The Royal speech highlights a pivotal and positive stage in the history of this conflict which has lasted too long,” he underlined in a statement to MAP, saying he was convinced that “the definitive settlement of this file is within reach, particularly in light of the growing international support for the sovereignty of the Kingdom over its Southern Provinces and for the autonomy plan as the only basis for resolving this artificial dispute”.

He noted that this process calls upon all the active forces in Morocco, who are called, as highlighted in the Royal speech, to redouble their efforts, in particular civil society and political parties to highlight the accuracy and relevance of the Moroccan position abroad.

“Moroccan parties are called today, more than ever, to have a strong presence in all forums,” continued Mr. Amengay, stressing that “the question of the territorial integrity of the Kingdom is a just cause, backed by irrefutable arguments based on history, politics and the reality on the ground”. And to continue that all Moroccans can only be proud of the successes achieved by Moroccan diplomacy under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
