2024 was supposed to be a triumphant year for Kendji Girac, who is celebrating his 10th career. Since his victory in “The Voice”, the gipsy singer has sold no less than 6 million albums, generated more than 2.5 billion views on YouTube, given 500 concerts around the world and attracted 2 million spectators in theaters . A crazy success which was tarnished by tragedy following a marital dispute, which almost cost him his life. “ I had to take care of myself, think about what had happened to understand how I got there and, above all, make the right decisions for the future. I also wanted to let justice do its job. Now that this is the case, it was important to me to contact you to tell you that I am better and how much I regret what happened. » confided the 28-year-old artist last June, after his hospitalization due to a gunshot wound which he said was accidental, making his mea culpa: ” I almost lost my life, the love of my family, my audience, my friends. My daughter almost lost her father. I don’t plan on doing these things that destroy people again. I want to go back to being the boy I was, that I am deep inside ».

The worst start of his career
While the case was closed, Kendji Girac went back to work to give life to a new album called “Vivre…”, helped in particular by his friend Vianney. “ Writing these songs to you believing that you would never be able to perform them again; This is what I found to once again express my friendship to you. Today this album is finally released, on which you have never sung so well. You command admiration amigo » he wrote to her in a poignant message, proud to have concocted many songs for her on this intimate record, including the first single “Si only…”. But did the public respond, a few months after the tragedy which damaged the singer’s image as an ideal son-in-law? The Top Albums have fallen, and as revealed by SNEP, it is the rapper SDM who retains the lead with his album “A la vie à la mort” with 22,456 equivalent sales on the clock. The best entry is signed by “13 Organisé”, second with the sequel to its successful album, while the group Coldplay follows, which lands directly third with “Moon Music”.
Faced with this strong competition, Kendji Girac had to settle for fourth place only with “Vivre…”, marking the worst start to his career. The project actually has 16,084 units on the clock, including 14,096 in physics (or 88% of the total) and 1,677 linked to streaming (10%). For comparison, his previous album “The School of Life” entered number one in sales in November 2022 with a significantly better score, i.e. 17,560 copies sold, while “Mi Vida” in 2020 was content with second place behind “13′ Organisé” but with a solid first week at 35,875 sales. The holidays, the arrival of a new single and intensive promotion including the NRJ Music Awards, should allow Kendji to reverse the trend!
