and Germany are currently arguing over the construction of the first submarine for the Moroccan armed forces, at a time when is participating in naval maneuvers with the FAR by deploying a nuclear submarine for these operations.

French media revealed that Naval Group and its German counterpart, TKM, are competing in this project. The newspaper The Tribune revealed that the French pioneer in defense shipbuilding is seeking to win submarine contracts in thirteen countries, including Morocco, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Egypt, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Colombia and Chile.

Morocco, according to our sources, has demonstrated a determined desire to acquire a submarine “as soon as possible” with the idea of equipping itself with a Scorpène Evolved, a modern and efficient model of around 2,000 tonnes. This decision “is important for Morocco, as a coastal nation with strategic maritime interests that seeks to secure its territorial waters and assert its presence in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean”it was indicated, adding that Rabat wants “modernize and diversify its military capabilities, particularly maritime.”

The Scorpène Evolved, developed by Naval Group (formerly DCN) in collaboration with Indian shipyards, is a new generation submarine with advanced features. With a displacement of approximately 2,000 tonnes, the Scorpène Evolved is designed for optimal maneuverability and a low acoustic signature, making it difficult to detect. Equipped with lithium-ion batteries, this submarine offers improved autonomy intended to extend the duration of missions. The Scorpène Evolved can be armed with heavy torpedoes and cruise missiles, allowing it to carry out varied missions, ranging from anti-submarine warfare to striking land targets. It is also equipped with sophisticated detection and surveillance systems, giving it a tactical advantage in maritime surveillance.

Morocco wants “engage in a rigorous selection process taking into account not only the technical capabilities of the submarine, but also the logistical support and training that accompany the integration of this new platform into its fleet”it was noted. Morocco, in the short term, wants “establish partnerships with countries with expertise in submarines, such as France or Germany, in order to benefit from technology transfers and specialized training for its naval personnel”we detailed.
