Alter Justice will organize the 6th edition ofJudicial Art. A 5@8 evening is expected on October 17 at the Périscope Theater, among others. For the body, art is considered a saving medium. One of their main missions is to enable the reintegration and social rehabilitation of people in the criminal justice system.

Alter Justice is leading the organization of this event. Located at 275 rue du Parvis in Saint-Roch, the organization has existed since 1967 in Quebec City.

The 6th edition of Artis Judiciali is part of Social (Re)habilitation Week, scheduled for October 15 to 19.

“With this event, we wanted to bring together people in the community, people in the justice system. It’s a way to reduce the prejudices they may encounter during their rehabilitation,” explains Daniel Poulin-Gallant, director of Alter Justice and criminologist.

The event remains free and accessible to all.

Use and exhibit artistic expression

Among the different components, Alter Justice set up a competition with people in detention, both provincially and federally. These are texts and visual works produced by themselves.

“With this competition, we had people from the community vote to find out their favorites. Then, we present these works in the form of an opening for a full month at the Théâtre Périscope,” reveals Mr. Poulin-Gallant.

At the same time, Alter Justice is also organizing another opening with the presentation of works by people outside prisons.

“The people participating outside the prisons are either people in the criminal justice system, or relatives of people in the criminal justice system or people working in the sector,” he specifies.

This opening will take place at the same time and in the same place.

For Alter Justice, artistic expression allows one to adapt to social or real confinement by finding refuge
facing loneliness, despair, dark thoughts or even exploring one’s artistic potential.

The public will be able to discover the works during the opening hours of the Périscope Theater.

“On October 17, we are organizing a 5@8 at the Périscope Theater. People are invited to see these works and participate in our awareness game You have time to kill », Announces Mr. Poulin-Gallant.

This evening also includes a reading of texts and music in live.

“The people who are going to read the texts are not brought to justice and those who are going to play the music are not the same. The latter are sensitive to the cause,” he adds.

“At Alter Justice, we firmly believe in social rehabilitation, in order to reintegrate people into the community, to make society fairer and more equitable for all. In this way, we can reduce criminal recidivism. By reducing this, there are fewer victims and it makes a society safer for everyone,” concludes Daniel Poulin-Gallant.

The main missions of Alter Justice are based on the defense of the rights of incarcerated people, but also accompaniment and support for people affected by criminal justice. These are people who are faced with the consequences of having a criminal record or at risk of having one.
