Hockey Canada announced that it has added forward John Tavares to its roster for the World Championship in Czechia.

He has already worn the colors of Canada at the World Juniors. He won gold in 2008 and 2009. He was also crowned at the Sochi Winter Olympics in 2014.

The Toronto Maple Leafs captain was also on the national team that won the World Cup in 2016.

Tavares represented his country at the World Championship in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

The center amassed 1,040 points, including 456 goals, in 1,109 games in the National Hockey League.

Canada’s first match is Saturday against Great Britain. The Canadian selection will also face Denmark, Austria, Norway, Finland, Switzerland and the Czech Republic in the preliminary round.

The tournament, played from May 10 to 26, is presented in Prague and Ostrava.
