Corsica will host two French FSGT championships this May. That of Volleyball and that of Judo.

It is a great reward for the Corsican FSGT Committee, the National Federation has just entrusted it with two French championships in this month of May: Volleyball, on May 10 and 11 and judo on May 18 and 19. The Fédération Sportive et Gymnique du Travail (FSGT), created in 1934, doubly approved for sport and popular education, has more than 250,000 divided into 4,200 clubs offering around a hundred physical, sporting and artistic activities, competitive and non-competitive. For 90 years, the FSGT has had the same goal: the training of emancipated sportspeople and citizens, through activity content and organizational forms adapted to the pleasure and needs of each and everyone. The FSGT considers physical and sporting practice as essential in the development of the person, throughout their life. “ The FSGT is a multi-sport federation in which a single license allows the practice of several activities. » underlines Laurent Bonnemaison of the Corsican FSGT Committee. “ Our committee lists 30 clubs, from running to cycling, including volleyball, judo, gymnastics, diving, etc. for almost 1,200 members. “. Each year the FSGT organizes federal championships for each of the disciplines and in this year 2024 it has notably accepted the candidacy of the president of Volley Ball Bastiais Bernard Gervais and Kodokan Corse.

Volleyball on May 10 and 11

These volleyball finals will be played on May 10 and 11 in the Bastia region. 42 teams spread over 11 levels will compete in the semi-finals on Friday May 10 and the finals on Saturday May 11 in the gymnasiums of Bastia, Biguglia, Furiani and Lucciana. These sites were selected for their geographical location in order to minimize travel for the teams, officials and accompanying persons who will be accommodated at the Belambra Holiday Village in Borgo. Among the participants, two island teams who brilliantly qualified to represent Corsica: the girls of GFCOA, in High Level 1 Women, and the boys of Furiani Volleyball in Promotion C Men. The highest level finals will be played at the Pepito Ferretti gymnasium of the CAB in Bastia on May 11 (3 p.m. High-level 1 Women and 6 p.m. high-level 1 Men), in the presence of international Jean-François Exiga. Beyond the purely sporting aspect, these championships will also be an opportunity to discover or rediscover Corsica to the more than 500 people who are expected over several days: players, staff, referees, officials, accompanying people, volunteers. A sporting event which is also very convivial with a beautiful evening on Saturday evening at Belambra during which the awards will be presented.

Judo in Calvi

On May 18 and 19, it’s time for martial arts with the French FSGT judo championships organized by Kodokan Corse at the Calvi sports complex. More than 200 participants from all French regions are expected in the senior, cadet, junior, Kyus cadet and senior team categories. This event will be placed under the sign of eco-responsibility. Indeed, the Kodokan Corsica club and the committee have chosen to limit their environmental impact by favoring local products and the shortest possible circuits, like the partnership with the drink La Corsica which will offer clementine juices. Finally, as part of the 90th anniversary of the FSGT, events and activities will be offered on May 19, still at the Calvi sports complex by the Corsican FSGT Committee and the Kodokan Corsica.
