The Canadian team that will try to win the gold medal at the World Hockey Championship in the Czech Republic will rely on a seasoned veteran, Toronto Maple Leafs captain John Tavares.

According to what journalist Darren Dreger of the TSN network revealed Friday morning, the attacker accepted the invitation from the team’s leaders and was to join his teammates shortly. The Leafs suffered elimination by losing Game 7 of their first-round series against the Boston Bruins on Saturday. Their players emptied their lockers at the start of this week before starting the vacation.

The maple leaf has recently been able to count on the arrival of other hockey players who suffered defeat in the initial round of the Stanley Cup series. Among them, there is Quebecer Pierre-Luc Dubois, of the Los Angeles Kings. The last minute reinforcements led to the departure of young Macklin Celebrini, expected to be the first choice in the next National League draft, and Adam Fantilli, of the Columbus Blue Jackets, who had been invited to join the Canadian squad.

They will begin the competition on Saturday by facing Great Britain.
