The Yonne gendarmes made a macabre discovery, Thursday May 2, 2024, in the small town of Levis. The dog of a couple in their thirties was stabbed and decapitated. The two suspects will be tried in October by the Auxerre criminal court.
“It’s a sordid story,” insists the public prosecutor of Auxerre (Yonne) Hugues de Phily. The Yonne gendarmes discovered, Thursday May 2, 2024, a stabbed and decapitated dog at the home of a couple in their thirties, in Levis, in Puisaye-Forterre. The two suspects were taken into custody for abuse or acts of cruelty towards an animal and will be judged on October 14 by the Auxerre criminal court.
The matter was originally quite different. The gendarmes initially went to the marital home to “a complaint for domestic violence from the lady, against a background of alcohol”, explains the prosecutor. This case was closed without further action. “It’s about a couple who are falling apart.” But there, a completely different story emerges.
“The gendarmes discovered the dog killed with a knife and with a hedge trimmer or a chainsaw, in any case with a mechanical gardening tool,” indicates the prosecutor. Furthermore, thehe head of the animal was found near a wheelbarrow by investigators.“The two suspects are both involved in the killing of the animal but do not give the same version“, continues Hugues de Phily. “The execution would be linked to the fact that the dog killed a cat.“
The couple in question, a 38-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, are already “GOOD” known to the courts. Other animals were at the couple’s home: two dogs and two cats. The veterinary services removed the animals on Tuesday May 7.
