Transported to Lille University Hospital (North), the 4-year-old girl’s vital prognosis is not in jeopardy. She was bitten on the cheek and forearm by the dog, taken into care by the police.

Two serious bites, to the cheek and forearm. Thursday May 9, 2024, it was 5:30 p.m. when the firefighters intervened on rue de Guarbecque, in Isbergues (Pas-de-Calais).

A 4-year-old girl has just been seriously bitten on the face and arm by a dog. The injuries were significant: part of his cheek was torn off and his forearm was fractured.

The victim, treated urgently, was transported to Lille University Hospital escorted by motorized police. His vital prognosis is not in jeopardy, the SDIS of Pas-de-Calais told us this Friday, May 10.

The dog was taken care of by its owner and the police, who were also present on site. It is an American staff breed, a cross between the Bulldog and Terrier breeds. These medium-sized dogs, with a powerful and very muscular build, weigh around thirty kilos and measure 50 centimeters high.

Considered an energetic, gentle, obedient and affectionate dog, it can show aggression if it suffers mistreatment, indicates the SPA. The American staff is considered “could be dangerous” by the public authorities, who classified it as a guard and defense dog (category 2). He must therefore be systematically muzzled in public places.

Positive education is essential in order not to upset the amstaff and violent reprimands, both verbal and physical, are strictly discouraged, otherwise he will develop an aggressive character in his turn.

When contacted, the gendarmes of the Béthune company did not wish to communicate on the circumstances in which the 4-year-old girl was bitten.
