Laval drama | The trial of Pierre Ny St-Amand should begin in April 2025

(Laval) The man accused of murdering two children after a Laval bus hit a daycare in 2023 is expected to stand trial starting in April 2025, for five weeks.

Judge Lyne Décarie, of the Superior Court, announced Thursday that the trial of Pierre Ny St-Amand would take place from April 7 to May 9, 2025. But Judge Décarie opened the door to an earlier trial if the lawyers’ schedules involved in the case allow it.

Pierre Ny St-Amand was arrested on February 8, 2023 after a Société de transport de Laval bus hit an educational daycare in the Sainte-Rose district. Two young children, aged five and four, were dead and six others were injured.

Last March, at the end of the preliminary investigation, Judge François Landry, of the Court of Quebec, concluded that there was sufficient evidence for Pierre Ny St-Amand to stand trial in this case.

The former Laval bus driver will be tried on two counts of first-degree murder and seven other charges, including attempted murder and aggravated assault.

The case is expected to return to court on June 11.

A publication ban prevents the young victims from being identified and the evidence presented in March during the preliminary investigation from being revealed.
