For several years, Sabrina Zaccagnini, artistic mediator at Pollen (the artists’ residence in Monflanquin), has worked in collaboration with Camille Turcat, plastic arts teacher, to introduce students to a large-scale artistic practice.

This year, the constraint imposed by the teacher was a return to the subject, with students obliged to get their hands dirty, to discover a complicated technique to work in class: modeling.

The name of Alexane Morin, visual artist, stood out, and between the three of them, a reflection around clay, architecture and installation was built. After discovering the artistic practice of Alexane Morin, who came to introduce herself to the students in March, the 5th grade teenagers rolled up their sleeves for two days at the beginning of May. Beforehand, each student had to take a photo of their place of residence, which became the working support.

Between drawing technique and modeling using 500 g of clay, each student appropriated a home in Sainte-Livrade or its surroundings and proposed a utopian version of it. Then emerged from the hands of the students, 85 earthen architectures which will constitute an installation visible at the college and then in Pollen, during the month of June.

Spotlight on Alexane Morin: her favorite themes are history, space, architecture, the city, the transition from old to new, construction, destruction, reconstruction, movement of form … She expresses them through sculpture, installation, photography and drawing. His work is based on the tension of contradictory relationships, of opposing forces between the elements, for example in the use of fragile materials, such as wax or earthenware, in formal registers referring to the stability of the architecture.
