The Sûreté du Québec has reason to believe that a 79-year-old man from Dolbeau-Mistassini, who was arrested for crimes of a sexual nature between 1974 and 1997, could have caused other victims.

On May 2, investigators from the Major Crimes Investigation Division of the Sûreté du Québec arrested Claude St-Germain, in relation to sexual offenses committed against minor victims.

According to the Sûreté du Québec, the events took place in Dolbeau-Mistassini and Papineauville, between 1974 and 1997.

“The investigation tends to demonstrate that the suspect could have caused other victims,” said the Sûreté du Québec in a press release issued Thursday.

Since several victims have been identified, the Sûreté du Québec has deployed the Serial Crime Investigation Management structure in which all Quebec police services participate “to quickly identify crimes committed by predators and proceed with their arrest.”

“This provincial coordination therefore allows police resources to be pooled and aims to better protect victims.”

Claude St-Germain appeared the same day of his arrest at the Roberval courthouse. He was released pending further proceedings.
