When will there be an improvement on the flood front?

Two departments are now on red alert for flooding. These next few hours will remain critical before the precipitation returns. But how long will it rain?

Since 4 p.m. today, Meurthe-et-Moselle joins Moselle on red alert for flooding. Indeed, the rivers continue to rise and this is particularly the case of the Vézouze which is the section on red alert (plus the Nieds en Moselle).

Be careful in all of these departments, the soils are saturated with water and this can cause heavy flooding or even flooding even after the rains have stopped.

An unstable Sunday

While rain and storms are present this Saturday towards the southern half of Lorraine (especially towards the Vosges), instability will be present this Sunday. Indeed, the anticyclone remains absent which allows a certain form of instability to present itself.

On Sunday morning, we will find rain or even storms between Meuse, Meurthe-et-Moselle north and Moselle. These will be able to to be locally strong. However, the episode will not be as extensive and generalized nor as mobile as Friday.

Numerous showers are expected for Sunday.

However, the new rains could bring 10mm by midday in the heaviest showers. Locally a further rise in watercourses or stagnation of levels is possible.

In the course of your Sunday afternoon, these showers and thunderstorms will tend to increase throughout Lorraine (as well as the rest of France).

They will once again be able to provide local accumulations likely to increase the various watercourses. In the end, around twenty additional millimeters may fall over the course of the day.

Next week: under surveillance

During next week, showers may occur. A rainy episode is under surveillance: it is between Tuesday evening and Wednesday that rains could bring accumulations fairly well distributed throughout the regionincluding as far as Alsace. The location of the rains and their importance still need to be determined.

A more significant deterioration is expected between Tuesday and Wednesday.

At any rate, the slightest new bad weather should be monitored given the exceptional situation currently affecting part of the north-east of France.

Elsewhere in the country, accumulations of rain will also need to be monitored since overall, the soils are loaded with water. Rainfall intensity is also a factor to monitor : the stronger it is, the greater the risk of runoff. We will have to wait at least until the end of next week to hope to find some separation from bad weather.
