SENEGAL-AGRICULTURE / Saint-Louis: the CEO of SAED at the bedside of farmers in the Diawel zone – Senegalese press agency

Ross Béthio, May 9 (APS) – The general director of the Company for the development and exploitation of lands of the Senegal river delta and the valleys of the Senegal and Falémé rivers (SAED), Aboubacry Sow, made Thursday, a tour in the Diawel area following the difficulties encountered by farmers.

“I carried out this tour in the Diawel zone following the difficulties that farmers suffered in the context of setting up this campaign,” he said on the sidelines of this tour.

According to Mr. Sow, the difficulties are linked, among other things, to a lack of water intended for the production plots.

“I told myself,” he adds, “that I had to travel with my team to see what is really happening and what needs to be done. to try to limit the damage.”

During this field visit, Mr. Sow also highlighted a lack of maintenance in this production area located in the Senegal River valley.

It is an area, he explains, where “we have a potential which almost exceeds 4,000 hectares”.

“Last year, they had more than 2000 hectares but this year due to water problems, they are perhaps at least 1500 hectares,” he lamented.

Faced with this situation, the CEO of SAED has made a commitment to support these farmers.

“And there, we are going to do everything to try tomorrow to mobilize a long boom excavator which will intervene on this channel to try to do the cleaning and the mowing,” he promised.

Still as part of this tour, Mr. Sow, accompanied by his team, also promised to assess the disasters and make reports to be returned to those concerned.

President of the Interprofessional Committee of the Rice Sector (Ciriz), Ousmane Ndiaye, for his part, welcomed the reaction of the General Management of the SAED, hoping that solutions will be found.
