A musical event bringing together more than a thousand people is underway on Thursday, May 9, in a former quarry near Saumur, despite a prefectural decree prohibiting it during the Ascension long weekend. A rave party bringing together more than a thousand people is underway, Thursday, May 9, in a former quarry in the town of Souzay-Champigny, near Saumur (Maine-et-Loire). However, a prefectural decree was issued on Tuesday May 7, prohibiting “festive gatherings of a musical nature such as rave parties” throughout the department, between May 7 and 13, for the Ascension long weekend.

Thursday afternoon, the gendarmes carried out reconnaissance around the site, without the evacuation of the place having been requested by the prefecture. The prefect of Maine-et-Loire, Philippe Chopin is expected on site in the afternoon to draw up a report. A helicopter was deployed in the morning, informs West France.

800 vehicles are parked near the site, according to a count from the gendarmerie. A single wall of sound was deployed. The first arrivals settled in on the evening of Wednesday May 8. The place where the free party takes place is relatively isolated, the first homes being located about a kilometer away.
