To see the crowds massing on the sidewalks, there is no doubt that the new health center from Pontault-Combault (Seine-et-Marne) was expected, very much awaited even. As proof, nearly 200 were present to attend the inauguration of the building, located atcorner of avenue de la République and rue du Plessis. With this record attendance, the mayor of the city, Gilles Bordtook the opportunity to remind people that it was “an important day”. “Nowadays, having access to healthcare has become a luxury for many of us. Over the past ten years, the Île-de-France region has lost several thousand general practitioners, making our region the largest medical desert in France.”
Partnership with the Cognacq-Jay Foundation
The origin of this new health center dates back to a meeting, that between the City and the Cognacq-Jay Foundation (read box), which has been administering theForcilles hospital from Férolles-Attilly. “We got along straight away because we shared the same values,” continued the first Pontellois-Combalusian councilor. Especially since we had premises available and they had doctors.”
After nine months of gestationso both parties ended up giving birth at this health center. Built in place of the City’s environmental services, the center is made up of six offices. They are intended to accommodate general practitionersof the physiotherapistsof the diabetologists or even gastroenterologists in the coming months. These will be practitioners from Forcilles hospital. “The opening of this health center is sort of an advanced center. It’s there‘hospital which comes closer to your daily life”, notably launched Jean-Luc Fidel, the general director of the foundation.
No excess fees
Thanks to this unique partnership, local residents will benefit from “access to a high-tech care platform which will improve the quality of services”, he adds.
The other point which was welcomed by the crowd, gathered in front of the doors of the center, is that the consultations will be carried out without excess fees. “Health and access to care must remain a universal right,” commented Gilles Bord. This tool is in addition to the policies that we have already put in place in recent years, such as the creation of a municipal mutual insurance company (Solimut), or the creation of a sports-health center at Nautil.”
What is the Cognacq-Jay Foundation?
The Cognacq-Jay Foundation, with which the city of Pontault-Combault signed a partnership for the management of the health center, was created in the last century by Ernest Cognacq, founder of Samaritaine, and his wife, Marie-Louise, née Jay. The main aim of the foundation is to develop social and charitable works. It is also a non-profit structure.
Among the thirteen establishments it administers, the foundation manages four sites entirely dedicated to health, including the Forcilles hospital in Férolles-Attilly. It has approximately 300 doctors nationwide.
The center will officially open its doors this Monday, October 7, at 9 a.m. “He is already a victim of his success. Almost all of the appointments have already been made on Doctolib », affirms Jean-Luc Fidel. However, this did not prevent local residents from pushing open the doors of the center, open for the occasion, this Saturday October 5. “Hello doctor, could you give me an appointment for post-operative follow-up”, then attempted a septuagenarian, who like many local residents present that day, was desperate to get a consultation. “I would have liked to, but the center is not yet open. Even more so, we will have to go through Doctolib,” the practitioner replied, somewhat embarrassed. In short, one thing seems certain, this center will not be empty anytime soon!
