Brussels: new shooting at Aumale metro station, suspects sought

DShots were fired again near the Aumale metro station in Anderlecht during the night from Sunday to Monday, around 3:45 a.m., indicates the Brussels local police zone Midi (Anderlecht/Saint-Gilles/Forest), confirming a information from Bruzz. This is the fourth such incident in just over a week. The police take residents’ concerns about violence very seriously, she assures.

“Luckily, no one was injured. The suspects fled in a vehicle and no arrests have been made so far,” Sarah Frederickx, spokesperson for the police zone, commented on Monday. She does not exclude that there is a link with the previous shootings.

On Saturday September 28, around 11:00 a.m., the neighborhood had already been surprised by a shooting near a café at the intersection of Rue d’Aumale and Rue de Birmingham. Two unknown persons fired several shots there, causing no injuries.

Last Wednesday, a man was then shot and injured around 7:00 p.m. in rue de la Vérité. The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition but is no longer in danger of death. The same evening, around 7:15 p.m., officers from the Midi police zone wanted to check a vehicle in rue Dante, still in Anderlecht, due to suspicious behavior and a traffic violation. After a brief chase, the passenger of this vehicle got out and opened fire on the police officers with a weapon. There were no injuries in these incidents either.

“We understand the concerns of residents in the neighborhood and it is certainly a concern that we have placed at the top of our priorities,” assured the spokesperson for the police zone. A meeting of the various services concerned by this problem took place on Monday morning.
