The runway excursion of a Boeing aircraft at Dakar airport caused 11 injuries. The model of the aircraft was however a “reliable aircraft”, without comparison with the black series of 737 Max.
Eleven people were injured Thursday, four of them seriously, during the takeoff of a Boeing chartered by Air Senegal, which left the runway, leading to the closure of Diass international airport, near Dakar, its manager announced. .
The type 737/300 aircraft, chartered by Air Senegal from a private company, Transair, departing for Bamako, “exited the runway during its take-off phase this Thursday, May 9, 2024 around 1:00 a.m.” , indicated in a press release the communications department of the airport management group.
According to Jean Serrat, aeronautical consultant for BFMTV, the plane has nothing to do with the 737 Max model involved in numerous incidents, to the point of speaking of a black series. “The 737/300 is a reliable plane, which has a very old history, which is no longer manufactured. It is not the 737 Max series which has recent problems.”
“These planes were known for their reliability, the seriousness of their construction, but you can always have a problem with a plane.”
The expert recommends booking tickets with companies that are registered and recognized as reliable from a security point of view.
Diass airport, near Dakar, was reopened to traffic on Thursday a few hours after an incident involving an Air Senegal plane leaving for Bamako, which left eleven people injured, announced the infrastructure manager on social networks.
