Eleven people were injured on Thursday, May 9, 2024, when a Boeing chartered by Air Senegal went off the runway during takeoff. An incident which led to a closure of Diass international airport, near Dakar, announced the manager.

The B737/300 type aircraft, chartered from a private company, Transair, leaving for Bamako, “excurred from the runway during its take-off phase this Thursday, May 9, 2024 around 1 a.m.”said in a press release the communications department of the airport management group.

The incident caused “eleven injured, including four serious” among the 78 passengers, specifies the manager who indicates that the airport is “Closed for the moment while waiting for the planned arrangements to be made.”

Six other passengers were admitted for observation in the airport medical services, according to the same Source.

The aircraft “immobilized” off the runway

“The reopening of the airport is announced in the coming hours”added the LAS management group, made up of a trio including the Turks of Limak, Blaise Diagne International Airport in Diass (AIBD, public) and the Turks of Summa.

The device “came to a standstill” off the track explains LAS in the press release. “The emergency plan was triggered by the airport authorities as soon as the information was communicated to them. Thus, all the airport’s emergency services were mobilized for the evacuation of passengers and their care as planned. »

Black series for Boeing

The black streak continues for the American aircraft manufacturer, in the midst of a crisis since an accident on January 5, notably, on a 737 MAX 9 of the company Alaska Airlines: a door came off in mid-flight, shortly after takeoff in the Oregon (United States).

Two months later, on March 7, a Boeing 777 was also forced to make an emergency landing after losing a wheel, after taking off from San Francisco, California.

On March 11, thirteen passengers on a flight between Australia and Chile also had to be hospitalized after severe turbulence approaching New Zealand, caused by a “technical incident” on a Boeing 787.

The safety of these planes was the subject of an examination in the US Senate in April, following a terse audit, and after revelations from a quality control engineer of the American manufacturer on the integrity of the 787 Dreamliner and the 777.

Four whistleblowers, including an engineer and former employees, testified before the US Senate Investigative Committee to warn of “serious problems” production on the devices. Serious accusations suggesting that passengers were taking risks by traveling on these planes.

Repeated accidents on Boeing aircraft recently have finally pushed CEO Dave Calhoun to resign.
