Whether in Gatineau this Friday, in Granby on Saturday or in Montreal on May 18, the viewing of the film will be followed by a show.

“Initially, it was supposed to be a reduced format, but my musicians really wanted to be there!” said the Brigham resident in an interview with The Voice of the East.

Cayenne (or Stéphanie Bouchard-Tremblay for close friends) initially wanted to close the chapter of her first album, Snowflakewith the creation of a music video for the song North of the north. It was with this in mind that she came to an agreement with the Bokeh35 company, before leaving for a ten-day journey.

“I’ve wanted to combine touring life with landscapes for a long time, with a bit of a western narrative. […] We agree that the North Shore is a bit redneck the edges. People like to ride motorbikes and go out to bars,” explained the mother of two young girls aged 14 months and almost three years.

“There are times when I expose myself”

This crossing of Route 138, however, also took a fairly intimate, even introspective, turn. The director and camerawoman Marion Huguet found that she had enough material to go well beyond a standard music video, which will still come soon.

“I had a love-hate relationship with living in a remote area for a long time, only to realize that I was just as unhappy elsewhere. The problem wasn’t the location,” Cayenne confided.

“It’s like a homecoming for me. I talk about my attachment to the region, I rediscover it through its landscapes. There are also times when I expose myself.”

A short press review allowed us to understand that the 34-year-old singer-songwriter is far from being a fan of the wooden language. Over the years, she has candidly addressed her ADHD, her homosexuality and even her sovereignist leanings. Sometimes with quite colorful language. To tell the truth, a slight filter had to be applied to make the short film more “mainstream”!

North of north, and a little to the east… should be available on the web next fall, to align with the peak period of film festivals. The most curious can come to the La Basoche cabaret on Friday, or to the KOOL Club the following evening. Tickets are sold online and at the door.

Cayenne remained in our neck of the woods after leaving the École nationale de la chanson in 2019. It was therefore as a local candidate that she reached the semi-finals of the Granby International Song Festival, in 2020 then in 2021. And to hear it, the shadow has gradually given way to light.

“Life brought me here and I’m very happy!” said the woman who teaches at Chantignole primary school in Bromont.

“Among the things that I like in Estrie are the vegetation, the large green spaces and the summers which arrive more quickly than on the North Shore. There is also a strong community spirit. (…) The people here charmed me a lot.”
