In a month, the Gers departmental contemporary art space, Memento, will unveil its brand new exhibition “Free Union”. This Tuesday, June 7, the artistic director of the museum, Karine Mathieu, revealed its outlines.

The appointment is given: from June 8 to October 13, 2024, the contemporary art space of the Gers department in Auch, Memento, will offer its brand new exhibition: “Free Union”. This Tuesday, May 7, it was in the old chapel of the Carmelite convent, repainted white, that the museum’s artistic director, Karine Mathieu, revealed the outlines and behind the scenes of this new artistic adventure.

So why this title? “We work with a lot of artists, visual artists… and often there are a lot of professions that are perhaps on the fringes like exhibition curators. I wanted to create a small, humble community with people with whom we have able to meet and work together in a different way”, maintains Karine Mathieu.

With more than 8,000 visitors, Memento’s “Full sentimental” exhibition was packed this summer

This year, the director is working in collaboration with two guest curators, the screenwriter Jean-François Sanz and the person in charge of exhibitions and regional distribution at the Musée des Abattoirs in Toulouse, William Gourdin. Without necessarily having the same artistic approaches, art enthusiasts pool their desire to offer this new exhibition.

For this new season, the artistic programming will be just as eclectic. Sculpture, video, music, painting: the arts mix in a single movement. They will adapt to the location, the room and the atmosphere with distinguished guests like the musical duo Nova Materia or the painter Hicham Berrada.

In 2024, during Wednesdays in the summer, the Memento cloister will also be transformed into an artistic scene. Without forgetting the more “intimate” meetings, around a work, which will also be part of the event.

The opening of the new Memento exhibition will be held on Friday June 7 at 7 p.m. at 14 Rue Edgard Quinet, in Auch.
