Geneva: Uni Mail occupation continues one more night

Uni Mail occupation continues for another night

Published today at 7:19 p.m.

The rectorate authorized members of the Gaza support movement to stay an extra night in the Uni Mail lobby. The announcement was made Wednesday evening at 6 p.m., during the general assembly of the Palestine UniGE Student Coordination (CEP-UniGE).

During the day, discussions began with the rectorate. The Alma Mater’s proposal? That three members of the movement installed at the heart of the University since Tuesday join a scientific committee made up of ten people in order to address the questions at the heart of the problem. Among these, should the University end its ties with Israeli universities or any other country that violates human rights?

On Wednesday evening, some feared a maneuver by the rectorate in order to run out of steam. But in the end, the mobilized students decided to join the discussions of the scientific committee, which will begin on Thursday. “If we do not accept the proposals for dialogue, we are shooting ourselves in the foot,” defended the spokespersons.

Finally, the movement underlined the attitude of UNIGE which, unlike the universities of Lausanne or Zurich, invited discussion without ordering an evacuation.
