Green light for the construction of a new primary school in Farnham

In a press release, the school service center indicates that Quebec has officially given the green light to this investment of 27.3 million which will see the light of day in the Domaine du Sentier sector, south of Route 104.

“Our material resources teams are currently preparing to start the construction site,” specifies the general director, Carl Morissette.

The still unchristened school is to be in operation for the 2025-2026 school year.

Just like the last four primary schools built in the Val-des-Cerfs area, it will be “new generation”, meaning more spacious, bright and colorful than the old establishments.

In addition to giving pride of place to wood, blue and aluminum, it will include 16 classrooms, collaborative rooms and an outdoor play area.

“Our children will be able to benefit from an educational environment that will stimulate their minds and where they will develop a feeling of belonging to their community,” says the Member of Parliament for Brome-Missisquoi and Minister of Sport, Recreation and the Outdoors, Isabelle Charest.

Development

Last August, the Town of Farnham agreed to pay 2.8 million to acquire the land intended for the new primary school.

“In 2017, there were around 8,200 of us in Farnham. Six years later, there will soon be 11,000 of us. The population is increasing and it’s not over. We cannot do without a school,” explained Mayor Patrick Melchior.

Contacted on Wednesday, Mr. Melchior said he took the news with “a lot of joy”.

A 5th primary school on its territory was “necessary”, he said. “The population of Farnham is growing at breakneck speed. We attract a lot of young families. We really needed that.”
