Despite the good weather, the residents of a residence in the Kerlédé district in Saint-Nazaire (Loire-Atlantique) will not be able to enjoy their balconies.

The building located at numbers 8 to 12 of Allée des Albatros is the subject of a municipal “safety for immediate danger” order, drawn up Monday April 29, 2024.

In question, according to the document, an “imminent risk of falling from a balcony”.

With the fear that all the balconies in the building will also be weakened.

“Structural failure”

After a tenant reported a “crack”, the social landlord Silène called in a mason, Thursday April 25, 2024.

Which revealed “a more important problem than a splinter of concrete,” says La Silene.

“The pathologies reported are significant and cause structural failure on the balconies. And only on the balconies. »

The reaction was prompt.

The following days, vertical and horizontal props and IPN beams were installed on each of the exterior access points of the 24 apartments, as well as on the three entrance doors to the buildings.

“They even took the handles of the French doors, I just had time to remove my planters,” testifies one of the 54 tenants, “for more than 20 years” of the residence.

All the Silene heritage diagnosed

“With the other residents, we don’t really understand what’s going on. Are we going to have to end up leaving the apartments? “.

Another welcomes the rapid intervention, “despite the public holidays”.

The passage of a design office Tuesday April 30, 2024 allowed us to know a little more.

“The pathologies observed include a level shift between the slabs of around 2 cm, as well as through and transverse cracks,”

continues the social landlord.

“We are awaiting the result of the in-depth diagnosis which will allow us to determine the work to be carried out. We are fully aware of the concern this situation causes and we are actively working to resolve this issue. »

Before this big alert, Silène had launched a call for tenders for a “diagnostic mission” for all the balconies of its heritage.

While being assigned, it should start in September 2024.
