And A major rockslide occurred on departmental road 1091, between Grenoble and Briançon, on the night of Saturday October 5 to Sunday October 6.

“Rock blocks weighing several tons” fell off the mountain and onto the road, “at the Pont de l’Alp”in the town of Monêtier-les-Bains, reports Marcel Cannat, the vice-president of the Hautes-Alpes department in charge of roads.

The department’s services began drilling the rock blocks around 5 a.m., but “the noise and vibrations made us stop the construction site”specifies Marcel Cannat.

On the morning of this Sunday, work was able to resume and “the clearance (was) in progress” indicated the Haut-Alpine elected official on his Facebook page shortly after 10 a.m.

After a helicopter flight over the area and the intervention of the Hautes-Alpes department’s road services, the road was finally reopened to traffic late this Sunday morning.
