Two minors, arrested Thursday after mortar fire against the Marcel-Sembat high school, in Vénissieux, were indicted and placed under judicial supervision, the prosecutor’s office told AFP on Sunday.

Aged 16 and 17, they were presented to a judge on Saturday as part of a judicial investigation for “participation in a group with a view to preparing violence or damage, destruction of the property of others by means dangerous and possession of explosive or incendiary devices,” he said.

The prosecution had requested placement under judicial supervision for the youngest and pre-trial detention for the oldest, according to the same source.

Shortly before the start of classes at 8 a.m. on Thursday, several dozen young people gathered in front of the Sembat Seguin school complex in Vénissieux and threw pyrotechnic projectiles.

At the same time, shopping carts, self-service bicycles and a car parked nearby were set on fire, damaging the enclosure and entrance gates.

The two minors are high school students

No one was injured and classes were not disrupted by the incident, which sparked strong reactions from teachers and local elected officials.

The two minors, students of the targeted high school, were taken into custody just after the violence for the first, and in the evening for the second, the police said on Friday. One of them was later released.

A third suspect had also been identified, according to the prefecture and the rectorate. As of Sunday, no information about him has been communicated.
