HASfter the torch, the Paris Olympic organizing committee unveiled, on Monday, the design of the cauldron for the Olympic torch relays (which is due to arrive this Wednesday in Marseille) and the Paralympic flame. An object imagined, like the torch, by designer Mathieu Lehanneur whose workshop is based in Ivry. Manufactured, like the torch again, by ArcelorMittal (official partner of Paris 2024), this cauldron will be lit at the celebration site of each stopover city by the last torchbearer of the day.

Clean shape, luminous color, aquatic relief… Its design is inspired by that of the torch. This object weighing 95 kg and 1.15 m high will be produced in 20 copies. It consists of an aluminum base, three legs and a stainless steel ring 1.35 meters in diameter. “ The cauldron takes the form of a ring of fire suspended above a liquid relief. Both pure and magical, it seems to float and is reflected in its metallic base », Describes its creator.

It remains to discover the design of the basin which will replace the cauldron to welcome the flame on the last day of the relay, July 26, and open the Paris Olympics. But Mathieu Lehanneur already provides clues: “ The torch, the cauldron and the basin are not separate objects. They are chapters of one big story. Everyone embodies the spirit of these Paris Games. »
