“A revival of anti-Semitism in France”, judges the vice-president of Crif

Monday October 7, 2024 will be the first anniversary of the Hamas attacks in Israel. A tribute ceremony to the victims and hostages is organized by Crif at the Dôme de tomorrow. Its vice-president Gérard Unger has since seen a “renewal of anti-Semitism in ”.

October 7 has since marked “a revival of anti-Semitism in France”, judged this Sunday on RMC at the microphone ofAnaïs Matin the vice-president of Crif Gérard Unger, on the eve of the first anniversary of the Hamas attacks which killed 1,205 people on the Israeli side.

A tribute ceremony to the victims and hostages is organized by Crif at the Dôme de Paris (15th century) from 8 p.m. “We are commemorating the largest massacre of Jews since the Shoah,” he recalled.

A first anniversary which will be closely monitored since the Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau asked the prefects to “reinforce vigilance” during “potential gatherings”. He also recommended “prohibiting demonstrations likely to cause serious disturbances” and “reporting any call or slogan falling within the criminal field, in conjunction with the judicial authority”.

Arms embargo against Israel: Emmanuel Macron’s statement “is completely inappropriate”

If “France did it, it also did inappropriate things,” he said. Regarding Emmanuel Macron’s statements calling for an end to the delivery of weapons to Israel “to lead the fighting in Gaza”, the vice-president of Crif saw it as a “completely inappropriate statement”. “France does not deliver weapons to Israel,” he stressed. He also regretted a “bad” temporality, with the anniversary of October 7 but also the absence of Israel at the Francophonie Summit, “prevented by Lebanon”.

If “some are considering” more “leaving France”, the vast majority of Jews in the country want to be “safe” to “avoid “the anguish and worry in which they have lived daily since October 7”, thus exposed by Gérard Unger.

And the latter did not mince his words towards Jean-Luc Mélenchon and LFI, after the first called for Palestinian flags to be put up “everywhere” from October 8, in response to a circular from the Minister of Higher Education on the maintenance of order and secularism in establishments. “Talking about geopolitics does not undermine secularism,” denounced the rebellious leader.

LFI “manifests hatred and anti-Semitism”, accuses Gérard Unger

“This inspires the same thing in me as the comments of Jean-Luc Mélenchon and LFI since October 7, that is to say a form of disgust and shame to see a party that claims to be left-wing wielding hatred and anti-Semitism as he does,” accused Gérard Unger. “To see this party forget what secularism is, to forget that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is much more complex than it wants to say, is something very painful.”

“We can criticize Israeli policy, it is perfectly legitimate, many Israelis do not agree with this policy,” explained the vice-president of Crif. “We have no right to question the existence of the State of Israel,” he then added.

“A French shock”, for Yonathan Arfi

October 7 is also “a French shock”, Crif president Yonathan Arfi declared in an interview with Le Monde. “For the past year, we have been experiencing a period of revelation and clarification […] on the subject of anti-Semitism.” Since the attacks of October 7, the latter considers that hatred towards Jews is now present at “all levels of society”.

97 hostages still held in Gaza

The Hamas attack led to the death of 1,205 people on the Israeli side, the majority of them civilians killed on October 7, according to an AFP count based on official Israeli figures and including hostages who died or were killed in captivity in the Gaza Strip. Of the 251 people taken as hostages on October 7, 97 are still detained in Gaza, 33 of whom were declared dead by the Israeli army.

More than 41,000 Palestinians killed since Israel’s retaliation

More than 41,000 Palestinians have been killed in the Israeli military campaign of retaliation on the Gaza Strip, the majority civilians, according to data from the Hamas government’s Health Ministry for Gaza, deemed reliable by the UN.
