To discover Pors-Beac’hwhat could be better than meeting the members of the Pors-Beac’h users’ association (AUPB), chaired by Jean-Marc Gourvès, an association which was created in 2000 and to which the Town Hall of Logonna-Daoulas delegated the management of the water body. See you in Pors-Beac’h on this Wednesday morning in April 2024.

You don’t go to Pors-Beac’h, you get there by going down the eponymous road which leads there, after the small village of Gorréquer.

At the port, located about two kilometers before the town when coming from Brest, Gilbert Cochennec, the secretary, Catherine Gajan and Jean-Michel Mailloux, members, are already in full discussion. A oyster barge is docked at the hold quay. “As close as possible to the port, we have the professionals“, inform the officials of the association. Oyster farmers who come to unload, sort and clean their oysters.

70 chests for anchorages

“We also have three boats of fishermen who work on scallops, sea bream, red mullet… but only in the harbour. » A touch of nostalgia seems to emerge. “In 2015, there were eight of them,” remembers Gilbert Cochennec.

Who assures it:

“The presence of professionals is important, it allows us to have a permanent activity, a vibrant port. These professionals can also be part of the association because here, we work hand in hand.

The members of the AUPB, which has 66 members, show the body of water, its anchorage and light equipment area (Zmel). “We have there, on the east side and the west side, 70 chests for anchorages. Including four reserved for visitors. » They accommodate pleasure craft up to 10.50 m. “Quite a few small boats, like throughout the southern harbor, to go, as soon as the weather permits, to catch mackerel, cuttlefish, even sea bass. On the pleasure side, the port is always full. We have a waiting list of around fifteen names. »

The fisherman’s hut

We settled in the cabin in Jakig: “We had already renovated the Madec cabin, black, adjoining the Abri du Marin, to store equipment. At the same time, we asked to restore this larger one, which was private property. It is part of the maritime heritage, the Town Hall bought it. We restored it to its original condition last year, with the support of the Municipality. It’s a fisherman’s hut, which dates from the 1950s, where the former fisherman-owner Jakig Pérès worked. »

A friendly place to meet up but also hold meetings, in the middle of the port. “We would like to set it up for work. For example, it is prohibited to careen on the foreshore since 2014-2015: in southern harbor, we have no solution to do it elsewhere. With other ports, we have created a collective which works on the subject. »

Maritime festivals

The inauguration of the hut in Jakig had been the occasion of a great party last year. And we know about the maritime festivals in Pors-Beac’h. The port was the setting for great demonstrations in 1980, 82 and 84.

The demonstration was growing too big, it migrated to Douarnenez.

But every year, sea lovers meet at Pors-Beac’h. This year, on July 7, the town and Brest Terres Océanes initiated one, with water games, workshops, sculling races, crew meals, old rigging… The AUPB will be in charge of welcoming the boats. ” All the profits will be donated to the SNSM. »
